The Supercars Championship returned for 2025 over the weekend with Bendix Racing making its way down New South Wales for the 2025 Thrifty Sydney 500. Sydney Motorsport Park’s Gardner GP Circuit would host Race 1, 2, and 3 of the 2025 Championship with Nick Percat getting behind the wheel of his updated-for-2025 Bendix Racing Camaro.
After a couple of testing sessions during the week, the Supercars would return to the track on Friday for the first practice session of the year. Nick would end the session with the 11th fastest lap amongst the pack with a best time of 1m30.730s. Qualifying for Race 1 would take place shortly afterwards with Nick claiming a P14 start on the grid for that evening’s race with a best time of 1m29.812s. Race 1 would see Nick Percat end Friday’s festivities with a P12 finish, claiming two spots up from his start place on the grid across 26 laps.
Saturday would kick off with Qualifying for Race 2 which would see Nick Percat just miss out on the Top Ten Shootout, earning himself a P11 qualifying result thanks to a 1m29.596s best lap. Race 2 would prove itself a challenging outing for Nick after suffering a 15-second penalty in the early stages of the race. Nick would ultimately end Race 2 with a P21 result.
Qualifying for Race 3 would take place late Sunday morning with Nick earning a P17 start on the grid for the weekend’s final race with a 1m29.697s best lap. Race 3 would kick away late in the afternoon and despite wet weather conditions late turning up the difficulty in the later stages of the race, Nick would claim two spots up from his starting position, crossing the chequered flag in P15 to cap off the weekend.
With the 2025 Thrifty Sydney 500 in the rearview, we see Nick Percat kick the year off at 17th on the leaderboard with 84 points. In the team standings, Bendix Racing ends Round 1 in 12th place on the leaderboard with a total of 173 points.
The 2025 Supercars Championship continues next month when the series heads to Victoria for the 2025 Melbourne SuperSprint, running from March 13th – 16th.
