Dave Casey and Bendix Make Their SuperUte Debut at the Tasmania SuperSprint

Media Releases

Mar 28, 2022

With Stadium Trucks no longer here in Australia, Dave Casey and SWL Racing made the switch to the Haltech V8 SuperUte Series with the Bendix Racing ULT4WD SuperUte. Running a V8-powered Isuzu D-Max in line with the new SuperUtes regulations, the team’s first stop was the 2022 NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint. Launceston’s Symmons Plains Raceway hosted the first four races of the 2022 Series, with the 2.4km course making for the perfect place for the team to show what they can do in their new machine.

The race weekend kicked off on Friday with an afternoon practice session. Dave Casey showed promising results, piloting the D-Max around Symmons Plains Raceway to a best time of 1m04.23, making for 10th fastest amongst the pack. Qualifying came later in the day with Dave Casey earning himself a P11 start across all four races thanks to a best time of 1m04.58s.

Race 1 kicked away on Saturday morning, with Dave Casey fighting a hard battle across the 16 lap event and ultimately retaining his place from the starting grid, crossing the chequered flag in P11. Saturday afternoon’s Race 2 saw an improvement result for Dave and the ULT4WD SuperUte, ending the day with a P10 finish after 20 laps of action-packed racing.

Once Sunday arrived, Dave and the team were chomping at the bit to get back out on track. Race 3 saw the team net consistent results with Dave earning himself another P10 finish. The scheduled Race 4 was canned after two other Utes collided on the first lap, spinning out the ULT4WD SuperUte. The race red-flagged to allow for the barriers to be repaired but was ultimately called off after one lap behind the Safety Car due to time restrictions. Dave and the team’s efforts across the weekend saw the crew earn an outright P8 result. Dave had the following to say to wrap up the weekend.

Dave Casey: “It’s our first weekend here at the SuperUte category in the Bendix Racing D-Max. It’s been a pretty good weekend, the car’s been faultless. In the last race, we had a bit of a bingle on the first corner but you get that in racing. It’s been a good learning curve from the stadium trucks and I’m looking forward to Perth.”

The 2022 Haltech V8 SuperUte Series returns in next month at Wanneroo Raceway for the Perth SuperNight, April 30th to May 1st.
