The central coast of NSW may be better known for its natural beauty and outdoor pursuits, rather than mechanical workshops, but in Long Jetty perched between Sydney and Newcastle, Apex Tyre and Auto has earned a reputation as one of the best ‘independents’ for miles around.

Established almost 19 years ago by Luke Kay upon completion of his mechanical apprenticeship, the workshop now employs a team of seven across two locations and will shortly acquire a third outlet.

Luke and his crew are kept busy undertaking a range of general logbook servicing predominantly on later model vehicles, as well as suspension and steering work, tyre sales and services, wheel alignments, roadworthy inspections and more.

Luke said that one of the reasons for Apex Tyre and Auto’s success, was its investment in equipment and its people.

“We’ve recently invested in the workshop which allows us to not only better service our own customers, but complete work for some other local workshops that don’t have the necessary equipment to do the job,” he said

Luke said he’s been using Bendix components in his business for many years.

“Bendix has been an important brake component supplier to Apex Tyre and Auto since day one,” he said.

“Bendix has always worked well for us and always been reliable – they make good products, that’s why we use them.”

More recently, Apex Tyre and Auto has also made the switch to Bendix’s award-winning* General CT™ Disc Brake Rotor range with industry-first visual wear indicator, and the results have been excellent according to Luke.

“Previously we were using General CT™ brake pads with another brand of rotor, so when Bendix also released Disc Brake Rotors under the General CT™ banner, we were very keen to try them out,” he said.

“I know that Bendix make reliable pads so was confident that these rotors would be good as well. I’m also a big believer that matching rotors and pads will achieve optimum results for customers, and this has been the case when combining the General CT™ rotors and pads.

“We’ve had no customer comebacks using the combination, and they also wear very evenly – all the feedback is positive. As the rotors age, I can also see that the depth indicator will bring efficiency in that we won’t have to measure rotor thickness.”

Matching rotors and pads will achieve optimum results for customers, according to mechanic and Apex Tyre and Auto owner, Luke Kay.

Luke also acknowledges General CT™ rotors’ FSC-certified packaging.

“At Apex Tyre and Auto we recycle as we can, so having packaging that can go straight into kerbside collection is really attractive to us,” he said.
