The final stop for the 2023 V8 SuperUte Series saw Dave Casey and the team head to QLD’s Surfers Paradise for the 2023 Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500. The streets of Surfers Paradise hosted the final four races of the series across the weekend, with the high-speed 3km-long street circuit making for the perfect exclamation point on a huge year of SuperUtes action.

A practice session on Friday would kick off the Gold Coast festivities with Dave showing promising results, etching out a spot in the Top 10 with the 9th fastest lap on the grid thanks to a best time of 1m26.50s around Surfers Paradise Street Circuit. Qualifying for the weekend would take place later in the afternoon, with the team battling intermittent rain throughout the session. Changes in tyre strategy to suit the rain and having to change back would end up costing valuable time with the team ultimately ending the session with a P12 Qualifying result.

The challenges would continue into Saturday with Race 1 and 2 of the Gold Coast round. Race 1 would, unfortunately, see the team’s first DNF result of the season after an incident with two other cars caused a mechanical failure that would see the Bendix Racing Dmax sent back to the pits. The team worked tirelessly to repair the car enough for it to be ready for Race 2, pushing hard in the one-and-a-half-hour time frame. Dave would kick off Race 2 towards the back of the field and would go on to fight all the way up to P10 with clean, consistent racing. However, the car was down on power due to an overheating issue from the damage taken in Race 1. This would ultimately result in a P10 finish to round out Saturday’s efforts – an impressive feat given the circumstances.

Race 3 would kick away on Sunday morning and would see Dave steer the Bendix Racing Dmax to a P14 result. Race 4 would mark the final championship race of the season with Dave crossing Surfers Paradise’s chequered flag in P12 to cap off the weekend and the 2023 season.

The 2023 V8 SuperUtes will return next month for a non-championship round as a support category at the 2023 Vailo Adelaide 500, running from November 23rd – 26th.
