New Vehicle Sales Data – June 2008
June 2008 was up 1,444 vehicles on June 2007. Sales volume was 106,541 new vehicles, compared to 105,097 last year. The June industry volume is up 17,901 on May or 20.2% and in seasonally adjusted figures this represents a 6.3% increase. The year-to-date 2008 market of 542,695 vehicles is running ahead of the same period in 2007 by 3.5% or 18,319 vehicle sales.
The fiscal year 2007-08 shows the market has reached a record 1,068,301 vehicle sales, an increase of 64,419 over the previous record, set last year.
The Passenger Vehicle Market decreased again by 2,262 vehicle sales (-3.5%) over the same month last year; the Sports Utility Vehicle Market, increased by 2,440 vehicle sales (12.9%) and the Light Truck Market increased by 1,302 vehicle sales (6.9%) over June 2007.
Toyota retained the top sales position in the June monthly market with 25,624 vehicle sales, ahead of Holden with 11,968 and Ford third with 10,286. Toyota, increased its market share to 23.5%, retaining market leadership in year-to-date terms. Holden’s March result sees it hold on to second position although its market share declined further from 12.6% to 12.4%, with Ford's market share falling marginally to 10.0% placing it third. Nissan, Holden & Honda all lost some ground again in June 2008.
