Bendix 4WD brake pads

Proven stopping power
in extreme conditions

Bendix 4WD disc brake pads come with the promise of “on road feel, off road tough.” For experienced 4WD outback racer, Jason Forssman, the Bendix assurance has certainly proved accurate.

Along with his ‘Team Jaffa’ racing partner, Jeff Redman, Jason has been consistently impressed by the performance of Bendix 4WD brake pads, since fitting them to the duo’s supercharged and heavily modified competition vehicle – a 1992 Ford Maverick.

Since then, Jason and Jeff have pushed their Maverick to the limits in some of the nation’s toughest 4WD competitions, including the Australian Outback Challenge and the Ateco Winch Challenge.

“In competition conditions, the performance of the Bendix 4WD brake pads has been sensational. We have complete confidence that when we want to stop, we can stop,” says Jason.

Stopping the Maverick is certainly a tall order in rugged, outback environments, with the vehicle weighing around 2.4 tonnes when fully loaded and fuelled, Bendix 4WD brake pads continually perform again and again despite heat, water, mud or extreme dust.

The pads certainly contributed to Jason and Jeff’s performance (including a stage win) in last year’s Australian Outback Challenge. Part of the Challenge is a night navigation, which Jason likens to “orienteering in the dark.”

“In a 100 square metre bushland paddock just outside Broken Hill, we have ten GPS points to find, but no idea what’s between those points. We’ll routinely be doing 130 – 140 kms per hour in the absolute dark and need to stop in a real hurry.”

Jason says Bendix 4WD brake pads bite hard with less pedal effort, allowing him to pull up his vehicle even in the most testing circumstances.

“In competitions we routinely brake at high speed in extreme conditions. We might be on our front wheels alone, going down a 45 degree slope, or navigating a slippery, rocky creek bed. To brake in such situations, we need a pad that will perform regardless of water, mud, dust, dirt or temperature.”

Jason’s confidence in Bendix 4WD brake pads extends to his daily driving.

“My tow car, an 80 series Land Cruiser, is fitted with Bendix 4WD brake pads, and so is my wife’s GQ Patrol. I trust the pads and I know they’re reliable in all conditions, so they’re perfect for city or suburban driving as well as for outback competitions.”

Bendix 4WD brake pads are made to survive the demands of city traffic one day, towing or outback adventure the next. The result of extensive laboratory and on-road testing, the pads provide exceptional fade resistance even on heavy vehicles and in high temperature braking conditions.

Bendix 4WD brake pads feature:

  • The unique Bendix Titanium Stripe that gives the 4WD pads instant friction without bedding-in.
  • Epoxy-modified Phenolic Resin (EPR) that holds the friction material matrix together, at high and low temperatures, giving 4WD pads their structural integrity and improved strength, enhancing braking performance under extreme conditions.
  • Grooves in the front pads to help expel water, dust or dirt that comes into contact with the pad during off-road use.
  • Bendix 4WD pads provide drivers with a comforting pedal feel and confidence of sure stopping whether they are heading down a bush track or pulling up at the school crossing.
