Leading Victorian automotive component manufacturer, Ballarat-based FMP Group has been inducted into the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame.
FMP Group, manufacturer of Bendix, which provides brake part products to seven out of 10 vehicles on Australian roads, received recognition for its manufacturing excellence and exporting capabilities at a gala dinner in Melbourne on Monday 19th May.
In accepting the induction, Managing Director Graeme Dixon attributed the longevity and success of the company to its 370 strong workforce, the dedication of its employees, a loyal customer base and the ongoing development of excellent products and manufacturing processes.
Mr Dixon said without the support and commitment of its workforce, FMP would not be able to operate in the highly competitive automotive industry.
“Our investment in research and development has also been successful with many outstanding products having been produced in our Ballarat factory,” he said.
“We intend to continue this investment to ensure the hard work of our employees pays dividends.”
Primarily working out of Ballarat, the FMP Group produces more than 13.1 million brake parts each year for local and export markets.
When announcing the inductees, Minister for Industry and Trade, Theo Theophanous, said the Hall of Fame recognised Victoria’s excellence in manufacturing and the importance of manufacturing to the State economy.
“Manufacturing is Victoria’s largest provider of full time jobs, employing 339,000 people or 12.8 per cent of the State’s workforce,” Mr Theophanous said.
The Minister for Industry and Trade, Theo Theophanous, joined industry leaders to present the 2008 Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame awards at a “lean, clean and green” themed gala dinner in Melbourne last night.
Victoria’s automotive component manufacturers dominated the night making up five of the 11 inductees. Companies from the aviation, design, textile, plastics and scientific sectors were also recognised for their contribution to Victorian manufacturing and exporting.
“Tonight’s inductees showcase Victoria’s manufacturing excellence and exporting capabilities,” he said.
Since the inception of the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame in 2001, the Victorian Government has recognised 88 companies to the Hall of Fame, along with 17 Honour Roll recipients and five Young Manufacturers of the Year.
